PRIDE FESTIVAL LAUNCHES FOR 2009

The 20th Annual Pride festival was officially opened by The Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi last Friday, September 18, 2009 at BamBOO. Proudly supported by major sponsor the City of Perth, this year’s Pride Festival theme is Homecoming.

2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the historic rally of gay and lesbian Western Australians on the steps of Parliament House. Homecoming is also the 20th Annual Pride Festival.

HAVE A BALL WITH PRIDE THIS YEAR

To help celebrate Perth’s 20th Pride Festival, this year’s committee will present a night of glitz and glamour as it introduces the Inaugural Pride WA Ball to the social scene. Fine dining and quality entertainment will accompany an awards presentation set to recognise great contributions made by individuals and organisations to Perth’s GLBTIQ community. With the Riverside Ballroom at Novotel Langley providing a spectacular backdrop, this is an event that’s certainly not to be missed.

In fitting with this year’s Homecoming theme, the Ball will of course showcase a King and Queen not to mention other award categories focusing on community contributions. Award details will be released shortly with nominations taking place in June, July and August. An independent panel of judges will then determine the final winners, to be announced on the night.

COMMITTEE FORMED, MONEY RAISED

On the eve of this year’s Annual General Meeting, Pride WA successfully raised $2,700 for the organisation and a further $1,800 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Following the success of last year’s emergency quiz night in March, Pride staged The Summer Quiz Night on Friday the 27th of February.

Pride Co-President, Sharlene Dixon, described the event as a great success. “We are so glad to make our new early quiz night a regular event on the annual Pride calendar” said Dixon. “We thank everyone who attended and everyone who donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal on the night.”

Pride also welcomed two new committee members after the Annual General Meeting held at Loton Park on March 4. Jason Chrisp, who was elected onto the committee at the AGM, has a background in Marketing and will take on the Marketing portfolio for 2009. Matthew Chant, who joined the committee after a gap was left by a late withdrawn nomination, will assist Teresa Teal with Volunteers.

HOMECOMING 2009
The 20th Annual Pride Festival

PDF

The 2008 Pride Committee has taken the unusual step of choosing a theme for the following year prior to the announcement of a new committee. Continuing the momentum of a very successful year, the new theme is part of a grand plan to capitalise on the successful reinvention of the brand, and create a 20th Annual Festival bigger than any WA has seen in more than a decade.

The 2009 theme is HOMECOMING.

With a focus on tradition and commemoration, it is hoped this theme will not only draw many Perth expats back home, but will also provide some strong family entertainment on Northbridge’s biggest night of the year.

PRIDE PARTY 2008
Size does matter

PDF

On Saturday, October 25 2008, after the 19th annual Pride Parade, Pride WA and Connections Nightclub will bring the Pride community a party to remember. With this year’s theme in mind, Pride and Connections will reinvent the historic nightclub into a springtime wonderland and garden party to rival its now infamous 30th Birthday celebrations.

Connections Nightclub owner Tim Brown can hardly contain his excitement ‘We’re taking over all the laneways behind Connections to provide additional party space below. They’ll be licensed and we’ll have nearly 500 square meters extra space. People will even be able to enjoy coffee, tea and more all night, at one of the area’s most exciting new cafés, Urbanistar.’

The incredible DJ line-up includes Sydney’s Kate Monroe, Triple Js Sharif Galal, Paul Payne (UK) and the very best Perth has to offer including Dirty Den, Mandy, Dave Jackson, Michy T, Joby …. and the list goes on.

And where are we going to fit them all? 3 fabulous spaces with something for everyone: The main room will be the dance space, as dance floor diva Kate Monroe headlines with over 3 hours of electro, tribal, house and dirty, dirty disco. The cherry blossom tree will be in full bloom, as will Perth’s very own drag superstars in three fantastically huge shows in true Pride fashion.
