Planning for Pride Festival right on track

11th August, 2005

Planning for this year’s Pride Festival is well advanced, with venues and sponsors locked in and some tickets already on sale.

This year's Festival, commUNITY, will kick off with the City of Perth Pride Fairday in Northbridge’s Russell Square on Sunday 25 September, run throughout October, with a rich mix of arts, culture and community events, before concluding with the 16th Annual Pride Parade and Party on Saturday 29 October.

Pride Co-President Daniel Smith said the Pride Committee had worked incredibly hard in recent weeks and was looking forward to presenting an exciting Festival to the Pride Community.

"Over the last few weeks, we have secured public liability insurance for the Festival and weather insurance for Fairday, giving us great peace of mind,” he said.

‘We have locked in Nova 93.7 FM as a sponsor and DJ Seb Sharp is working hard on this year’s Parade Soundtrack. Cardile International Fireworks has also come on board as a sponsor, enabling us to plan another exciting climax for our beloved Parade.

“Channel 10 will again screen community advertisements throughout October, helping us towards another bumper Parade crowd.

“And, we have reached agreement with Heat Nightclub to stage this year’s Pride Party, with early bird tickets selling out within a day of going on sale. The remaining 1,000 tickets will go on sale on 23rd August and are bound to sell out.”

Co-President Laura Foster said the Arts and Culture Festival would include some fabulous new venues.

“Our Theatre Season will be staged at the specially refitted Connections Nightclub and our opening production – My Dyke is Right – will begin on the Tuesday following Fairday, courtesy of the Pride Women’s Sundowner,” she said.

“Our Festival Convenor, Aimee Barber, has worked hard to put together a quality lineup of films and, with our Film Season being staged at Northbridge’s Cinema Paradiso, there will be plenty of popcorn and choc-bombs for people to munch on while they enjoy quality film, made especially for our commUNITY.”

Ms Foster thanked the Pride Committee for their hard work to date and other members of the commUNITY who had assisted Pride with its planning this year.
