Pride Western Australia Incorporated has outlined a plan to ensure a smooth transition between the current Pride Committee and a new Committee to be elected at the Annual General Meeting in February.Pride Co-President Daniel Smith, who has confirmed he will not be a candidate for election to the 2006 Pride Committee, said the transition plan aimed to build a talented, committed and positive team to take Pride forward in 2006.
“Pride WA has an exciting and bright future and there are great opportunities for members interested in serving the Pride Community by joining the 2006 Pride Committee,” he said.
“Successive Pride Committees have found that the Committee works best when new Committee members have a strong understanding of Pride’s operations and a clear idea of the things they would like to achieve while on Committee.
“To assist the 2006 Pride Committee, the current Committee has mapped out a clear transition plan that will enable people interested in serving on Committee to have all the information they need to hit the ground running.
“We will advertise the plan in this year’s Festival Guide and the November editions of both Out in Perth and Women Out West to make sure everybody is aware of our plan to move forward.”
Pride Co-President Laura Foster said there was now a clear process for people to get involved.
“Pride is an organisation within our community that people are passionate about and have strong opinions about how they would like to see the organization run,” she said.
“I invite everybody who is interested in volunteering on the Pride Committee to participate in our transition plan by attending our information forum and joining a working group.
“It is only by encouraging and fostering new ideas that Pride will continue our remarkable growth and we will remain in a strong position to encourage the cultural expression and celebrate, champion and support the rights and freedoms of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and other same sex attracted people living in Western Australia.”
Ms Foster said the transition plan would include four steps:
STEP 1: Information Forum (November 20)
Pride WA will stage an Information Forum on Sunday 20 November that will be professionally facilitated and have three sessions:
1. A briefing on Pride WA financial position and cashflow projections; 2. A briefing on the role of the Centre for Association Management; and 3. A briefing on new opportunities currently before the Committee.
STEP 2: Working Groups
Working groups will be formed at the Information Forum to develop proposals on new ideas to be presented at the Annual General Meeting. The working groups will be designed to consist of people who are interested in standing for election to the 2006 Pride Committee or serving on sub-committees.
STEP 3: Notice of Annual General Meeting (January 3)
The Pride Committee will post a notice of the details of the Annual General Meeting to all members, that will include details of how to obtain a copy of the 2005 Annual Report, a meeting agenda and details on how to nominate for election to the 2006 Pride Committee.
STEP 4: Annual General Meeting (February 5)
The Annual General Meeting will be held on February 5, with audited accounts presented and the election of the 2006 Pride Committee.
