MEDIA RELEASE - Pride Western Australia Inc.

New Pride team to focus on bringing our commUNITY together

18th June, 2005

The newly configured Pride Committee is hard at work organising this year's Pride Festival.

The theme of this year's Festival is commUNITY, and Pride WA aims to bring our commUNITY together with another rich mix of arts, culture and community events.

Beginning with the City of Perth Pride Fairday on Sunday 25 September, the Pride Festival will proceed throughout October with another stellar series of arts, culture and communty events, before culminating with the 16th Annual Pride Parade and Party on Saturday 29 October.

Pride Co-President Laura Foster said she was excited to return to the Pride Committee and was looking forward to a fabulous Festival.

"Over the last few years, we have seen Pride go from strength to strength and this year promises to deliver another impressive calendar of events," she said.

"We are making extra provisions for the staging of Fairday, such as extra food and bar capacity and extra ammenities, as Fairday has grown each year since we relocated it to Northbridge's Russell Square.

"We are also working hard to build on the successes of this year's XES Party to ensure that the problems of last year's Pride Party are firmly put behind us."

Ms Foster, who is also Pride's Women's Officer, said Pride had talented and committed people working hard to bringing this year's Pride Festival to fruition, including:

Fairday - Andrea Findley & John Vidovich

Arts & Culture Festival - Aimee Barber

Parade - Dean Cahill & Kristy Davison

Party - Estelle Crawford & Aaron Doust

Pride Co-President Daniel Smith said Pride was taking another step towards professionalising the organisation, with a new Participation Pack to be released shortly.

"Over the last couple of years, we have made a number of changes at Pride that have improved the services we provide to members, tightened up the managing of our accounts and qualified us for increased sponsorship," he said.

"Now, we have developed the new Participation Pack, which will provide all potential sponsors, stall holders, parade entrants and festival event organisers with everything they need to know to make getting involved easy.

"The new Participation Pack will come complete with application forms, key information and special tips. The Pack will be posted to potential sponsors, stall holders, parade entrants and festival event organisers within weeks and will also be available on our web site www.pridewa.asn.au from 30 June.

"I encourage all members of our community to get hold of a copy and decide how you are going to participate this year and help Pride bring our commUNITY together."

Mr Smith said Pride had a number of exciting events coming up, including Studio 54 at Connections Nightclub on Saturday 25 June and the Pride Quiz Night on Wednesday 29 June. More information about Pride's upcoming events could be found on the Pride web site.
