Perth's lesbian and gay community will come out in force this Saturday in a major show of resistance to Liberal Opposition Leader Colin Barnett's plans to rollback the human rights of lesbian and gay Western Australians.
Pride WA Inc. will stage event at The Court Hotel from 5 to 9 pm. 'Equality 2005' will feature a strong mix of live entertainment and will be MC'ed by Jeff Reingold of Network 10's "The Hothouse" TV show.
"The evening will offer a great lineup of entertainment including live music, comedy, dance and DJs. It is also a great opportunity for people to find out more about the Colin Barnett's attack on Lesbian and Gay human rights in Western Australia, said Sue Fisher Hendry, Pride Co-President.
"Mr Barnett is planning to rollback much of the law reforms and rights granted to the Lesbian and Gay community in 2002 by Labor and the Greens, she said.
"If the Liberal Party were to win government at the upcoming State election this proposal would adversely affect many people and families, sending a negative and archaic message to the rest of the world about the value of human rights in Western Australia. she said.
Equality 2005 will be held out in the courtyard of the Hotel and will offer a mini Fairday' experience with stalls set up offering information and advice on what fair minded Western Australians can do to help prevent this proposed violation of human rights. Information will be available from Pride, Murdoch Gay and Lesbian Law Society, The Greens, Rainbow Labor and Gay and Lesbian Equality (GALE).
The concert will be a 'by donation' event, with fundraising proceeds being split between the Equality 2005 campaign and the World Vision Tsunami appeal.
